What to Expect From Your Mommy Makeover
Childbearing is probably the most difficult thing a woman’s body can go through. Your skin expands and stretches during pregnancy, and after delivery, breast-feeding will cause your breasts to inflate and deflate, all of which leave you out of your pre-pregnancy shape.
A Mommy Makeover is a combination of procedures designed to restore and rejuvenate a woman after her body has undergone the strain of childbearing. Pregnancy, delivery and breastfeeding can create different problems for each woman, so the Mommy Makeover procedure will be unique depending on your specific needs.
What procedures are done during a Mommy Makeover?
There is no exact procedure “formula” for a Mommy Makeover. Dr. Firouz tailors the procedure to address each patient’s trouble areas and surgery goals. Some of the most common procedures performed during a Mommy Makeover include some combination of the following:
Liposuction or Liposculpture
Liposuction is a body-sculpting procedure to remove fat that is unresponsive to dieting and exercise. It is commonly used in Mommy Makeover procedures around the stomach, abdomen, hips, and thighs. Through a tiny incision, Dr. Firouz will insert a narrow cannula to remove the excess fat beneath the skin. After removing the excess fat, the incisions are closed by applying a compression dressing or bandage to the area to prevent bleeding, reduce swelling, and support the affected area.
A tummy tuck is the surgical removal of excess skin or fatty deposits from the abdomen, along with the repositioning of abdomen muscles into a tighter formation. This procedure can remedy the vertical separation of abdominal muscles know as diastasis, which can occur following pregnancy, making it a highly-sought after Mommy Makeover procedure. Dr. Firouz will make an incision horizontally across the lower abdomen, then the skin is stretched away from the muscle tissue, and excess skin is removed. The abdominal muscles are then tightened to provide a firmly contoured stomach and well-defined waistline.
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breasts. This procedure is great for women seeking a fuller profile because they have lost breast volume due to pregnancy or nursing. During your Mommy Makeover consultation, Dr. Firouz will help you determine the most appropriate breast implant size, type of implant, etc. It is Dr. Firouz’s goal to provide his patients with natural looking breast augmentation results.
A breast lift raises and reshapes sagging breasts. As a woman ages, skin loses some elasticity which can cause the breasts to lose their natural shape and firmness. Pregnancy and breast-feeding can speed up this process. Some patients choose to combine a breast lift with breast implants to enhance the size of their breasts, while others prefer to have the breast lift alone. During your Mommy Makeover consultation with Dr. Firouz, together you can determine which is best for you.
Breast reduction surgery reshapes the breasts to make them smaller, lighter and firmer. Reduction is accomplished by removing excess fat, glandular tissue and skin.
Labiaplasty or Vaginal Rejuvenation
Labiaplasty restores the look and tightness of the vaginal area, and is a very popular procedure to reverse the changes caused by childbirth.
All of these procedures address the most common complaints we hear from patients, such as sagging breasts, loose skin, and a few extra pounds that they cannot seem to lose from “problem areas” such as the abdomen, love handles, and hips. Dr. Firouz utilizes innovative surgical techniques to minimize pain and recovery time so you can get back to your family as soon as possible.
For some, Dr. Firouz also suggests non-surgical injectables for the face, like BOTOX® Cosmetic and injectable fillers, to keep the face looking youthful along with the body. We can also recommend a skincare routine with SkinMedica® products to keep your skin looking its best.
Beverly Hills Mommy Makeover Consultation
As you have read, a Mommy Makeover procedure is very customized to each patient’s needs. For this reason, Dr. Firouz spends as much time as needed with each patient to determine which combination of procedures is best. Upon arriving to the Firouz Institute of Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery, you will meet with Dr. Firouz in his office to discuss what your goals are for your Mommy Makeover. This is the time when you should express which areas of your body bother you and you wish to have improved; and be sure to ask Dr. Firouz any questions you may have. Next, you will go into an exam room so that Dr. Firouz can assess your trouble areas in order to give you his best professional recommendations. Combining his examination with what you told him about your goals, Dr. Firouz will recommend what procedures would provide you with optimal Mommy Makeover results. Together you can make the final decision, and if you are ready for surgery you can schedule your surgery date at this time.
When should I have a Mommy Makeover?
Typically a Mommy Makeover can be performed once your body has returned to as close to “normal” as possible. You should be done breastfeeding and ideally stabilized to your “normal” weight. Also, you should not plan on becoming pregnant again within the next few years. Feel free to schedule your Mommy Makeover before this time though, so you and Dr. Firouz can sit down together and plan for the future.

A: Patient safety is the most important consideration regarding any surgery Dr. Firouz performs. If the patient is in good health, it is generally safe to perform multiple Mommy Makeover procedures at the same time, including some combination of breast lift, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, liposuction, etc. With that said, every patient is unique and should be properly evaluated by Dr. Firouz to make sure she is a candidate and healthy enough to undergo both procedures at the same time.
A: Dr. Firouz always tells his patients that ideally they should be as close to their goal weight as possible before going into surgery. The closer you are to your ideal weight before surgery, the better the results of your Mommy Makeover (tummy tuck and/or liposuction) will be. During your consultation with Dr. Firouz, he will inform you how much weight you should lose, if necessary, so that surgery can provide you with the best results possible.
A: The full recovery time for a Mommy Makeover is about 6 weeks. For the first 6 weeks following surgery, Dr. Firouz does not want his patients to do any rigorous physical activity or exercise. He directs his tummy tuck and breast surgery patients not to pick up anything over 5 lbs for the first 2 to 3 weeks and not to pick up anything over 15 lbs until the 4th week after surgery. If you have young children, Dr. Firouz recommends having someone to help you around the house for the first few weeks after surgery since you should not be picking them up on your own. Dr. Firouz will give you clearance to resume your normal workouts at your post-operative appointment.
