Reveal Your Smooth and Undamaged Complexion

Dr. Firouz uses medical-grade chemical peels to improve your skin’s tone and texture and treat surface irregularities like fine lines and facial wrinkles. They work by creating “controlled injury” in the treatment area, essentially peeling away the outer, damaged layer of your skin. We have chemical peels in a variety of depths and strengths, so we can tailor your treatment to your needs.

Are Chemical Peels Right for You?

A chemical peel offers a non-surgical way to improve:

  • Fine lines and facial wrinkles
  • Sun spots, age spots, and other skin color irregularities
  • A rough skin texture or dull complexion
  • Mild scarring

Types of Chemical Peels

  • Light Peel. Light peels use the mildest acids, including alpha-hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids. They are effective for very early signs of aging and can address acne, fine wrinkles, and pigmentation issues. They only penetrate the outer layer of skin so the recovery is relatively short, about one week.
  • Medium Chemical Peel. If your scars, wrinkles, and skin color irregularities are slightly more moderate, Dr. Firouz may recommend a chemical peel. These are made of glycolic acid and TCA (trichloroacetic acid). Because they penetrate to a deeper layer than light peels, the recovery is slightly more uncomfortable. You will probably feel like you have a deep sunburn for about one week.
  • Deep Chemical Peel. These are the strongest chemical peels we offer and the only option that can address deeper facial wrinkles, lines, and scars. It uses phenol to penetrate deep within your skin. As a result, the recovery period is about two weeks.

Your Chemical Peel Experience

On the day of your chemical peel, we will begin your treatment by thoroughly cleaning your face. If you are having a deep chemical peel, we will administer general anesthesia. For all other peels, you will require a local anesthetic. To administer the chemical peel, Dr. Firouz will apply the chemical solution to your face. You will likely feel warm, singing sensations as the solution penetrates the surface of your skin. After the appropriate length of time has passed, Dr. Firouz will wash off the solution.

After Your Chemical Peel

Your chemical peel recovery depends on the type of peel you have. A deep chemical peel has a longer healing time of 14 to 21 days, while light and medium peels have recovery periods of about one week.

Chemical PeelsFAQs

Am I a candidate for a chemical peel?

Chemical peels are appropriate for many skin types. They may not be recommended if you have a history of abnormal scarring or are prone to pigmentation changes.

Is there anything a chemical peel cannot accomplish?

Chemical peels improve surface concerns but are not effective for deeper wrinkles or significant scarring. More intensive treatments may be recommended in those cases.

How should I prepare my skin before a chemical peel?

You may be advised to avoid exfoliating products, retinoids, and excessive sun exposure in the days leading up to treatment to reduce irritation and support even results.

How often can I get a chemical peel?

Treatment frequency depends on the depth of the peel. Lighter peels can be performed more frequently, while deeper peels require longer intervals between sessions.

Are chemical peels safe for darker skin tones?

They can be safe when selected and performed carefully. Certain formulations are preferred to reduce the risk of pigmentation changes.

Can chemical peels be combined with other treatments?

Yes, they are often part of a broader skincare plan that may include other non-surgical treatments to enhance overall results.

What should I avoid after a chemical peel?

You should avoid sun exposure, harsh skincare products, and picking at the skin while it heals to support proper recovery.
