Considerations for a Male Facelift

The male anatomy is unique, and a special approach is required during facelift surgery. Men’s facial muscles and skin are thicker than women’s, and they tend to have heavier jowls along the neck. In addition, if you have a receding hairline, your surgeon will need to take special care to hide the incisions well. All these factors make a male facelift challenging in unique ways. That is why it is so important to work with a board-certified plastic surgeon with many years of experience performing these procedures, like Dr. Firouz.

Your Male Facelift Experience

Prior to surgery, Dr. Firouz will administer general anesthesia to put you to sleep before making the incisions. In most cases, they will be hidden inside the hairline and around the ears. However, there are smaller incision patterns that may be appropriate for earlier signs of facial aging.

Through those openings, Dr. Firouz will adjust your tissue and fatty deposits, strengthen and tighten your skin, and remove excess tissue wherever necessary. If you need to correct jowls, fatty deposits, and excess skin on your neck, Dr. Firouz will address those issues through an additional incision beneath your chin.

Once he has tightened and lifted your facial tissues, Dr. Firouz will close the incisions with absorbable sutures.

Your Recovery

You should be able to return to work and light activities within one to two weeks. Immediately after surgery, Dr. Firouz will fit your face with bandages to minimize swelling. During the first few days of recovery, it is important to rest, limit movement, and give your body the time it needs to heal.

Male FaceliftFAQs

Am I a candidate?

Most male facelift patients are in their 40s, 50s, or 60s with relatively firm, elastic skin. Good overall health, a stable weight, and realistic expectations are also important for achieving optimal results.

How long will my results last?

Facelift results are long-lasting. While the aging process continues, you will maintain a more youthful appearance compared to if you had not undergone surgery.

Will a male facelift affect my beard or facial hair growth?

Incisions are carefully placed to preserve natural hair patterns, but slight changes in beard growth near incision sites can occur. In most cases, these changes are minimal and not noticeable.

Is the recovery different for men compared to women?

Recovery timelines are generally similar, but men may experience slightly more swelling due to thicker skin. Healing still follows a predictable course.

Can I combine a facelift with other procedures?

Yes, many men choose to combine a facelift with procedures such as eyelid surgery or neck contouring for a more comprehensive result.

Will people be able to tell I had a facelift?

When performed with precision, results are intended to look natural. Most people notice a more refreshed appearance without identifying surgery.

When can I resume shaving after surgery?

You may need to avoid shaving near incision sites for a period of time. Your surgeon will provide guidance based on how your skin is healing.
