What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a surgical butt augmentation procedure that enhances the volume and shape of the buttocks through fat transfer. In recent years, the popularity of the Brazilian Butt Lift has grown tremendously. Today, women are seeking a more prominent and perky buttocks that accentuate their curves and femininity.
With a Brazilian Butt Lift, not only is the size and shape of your buttocks enhanced, but the surrounding areas, like the back, hips and thighs, are contoured with liposuction, so that you truly look your best! At the Firouz Institute, Dr. Firouz, a premier butt lift surgeon is passionate about providing individualized Brazilian Butt Lift treatment plans and is able to deliver results for his many patients interested in this particular procedure. In fact, this is one of the more popular procedures performed by Dr. Firouz.
Who is a Candidate for Brazilian Butt Lift?
If you have ever thought the following, you may be a candidate for Brazilian Butt Lift:
*Provided that you have enough fatty tissue to be harvested via liposuction and then transferred to the buttocks.*
- Your buttocks are too small for your body frame and you want a more balanced look.
- Your butt is too flat or square and you want it to have more curves.
- With age your butt has started to sag and you want more volume so it looks more youthful.
- Weight loss has left your buttocks looks, sagging or flat.
- Clothing and swimwear do not fit properly on your buttocks.
- You desire a larger, curvier buttocks overall.
The ideal candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift is a patient with enough fatty tissue to be harvested via liposuction and then transferred to the buttocks. If you do not have enough fat, Dr. Firouz may instruct you to gain weight before the surgery so that there is enough fat to give you the results you desire. It is also important that the patient’s buttock skin not be too loose or too tight in order to see the best results possible.
During your Brazilian Butt Lift consultation, Dr. Firouz will listen to your goals and expectations for surgery. Additionally, he will examine you to determine if you have enough fatty tissue to be transferred and give you a better idea of the realistic results you can expect given your body composition. It is Dr. Firouz’s top priority to provide his patients with individualized and compassionate care and encourages all of his patients to ask him as many questions as they would like so they feel completely comfortable with their decision to have a Brazilian Butt Lift.
Fat Transfers are Performed During a Butt Lift Procedure
Brazilian Butt Lift surgery works by transferring fat from other areas of the body to your buttocks in just one procedure. First, Dr. Firouz will perform liposuction in areas with excess fat, most commonly, the abdomen, back, thighs, hips, and flanks (or love handles.) When Dr. Firouz performs liposuction in these areas, he takes his time to not only remove the excess fat, but to also contour the areas to further enhance your results.
After Dr. Firouz completes liposuction, the fat suctioned from these areas is carefully purified and the STEM cells are separated and re-injected into the buttocks. One of the key benefits of a Brazilian Butt Lift is that the fat tissue being added is not foreign to the body; there is virtually no chance of rejection, making this a safe procedure.

Brazilian Butt Lift Expert and Plastic Surgeon
Brazilian Butt Lift surgeon Dr. Firouz shapes and contours the buttocks and liposuctioned areas. During the liposuction phase of the procedure, he uses a very fine cannula, which prevents the skin from denting and from lumps from forming in the skin (which are often seen after using a large cannula for liposuction). Using this smaller, finer cannula for liposuction takes much more time than the larger cannulas, but the results are remarkably better. The small cannula also allows him to be very meticulous and better sculpt the body. In the next phase of the procedure, he transfers the fat in multiple levels – below, within and above the muscle – to see the best results. Dr. Firouz has found that this technique gives patients the most natural looking butt augmentation results.
In addition to his surgical skill, the surgeon will tailor each Brazilian Butt Lift to the patient’s surgical goals. Dr. Firouz takes into consideration the following factors prior to surgery:
- How many different areas need to be liposuctioned to harvest enough fat?
- How much fat the patient wants removed/transferred?
- How dramatic of results is the patient looking for?
If you are considering a Brazilian Butt Lift, it is essential you find a board-certified plastic surgeon to perform the procedure. Furthermore, we recommend choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in Brazilian Butt Lift procedures, like Dr. Firouz, to ensure your procedure is safe and the results are stunning.
Recovery After Butt Lift Surgery
During your pre-op appointment, we will go over the Brazilian Butt Lift recovery process with you in great detail. Every patient heals differently, but here is a general idea of what you can expect:
- You should refrain from sitting directly on your buttocks for 7 to 10 days following surgery. Dr. Firouz will let you know exactly when it is ok for you to sit normally again.
- Expect to wear the compression garments that we provide you with for 3 to 6 weeks.
- You can resume light exercise 3 weeks after your Brazilian Butt Lift and slowly work your way back up to your normal pre-surgery exercise routine.
- It takes 3 to 4 months for all of the swelling to go away completely after surgery.

Brazilian Butt Lift FAQs
Below are some of the most common questions patients ask us about the Brazilian Butt Lift.
A: Both Brazilian Butt Lift and Butt Implants enhance the size and shape of your buttocks profile. A Brazilian Butt Lift enlarges the buttocks via fat transfer using your own natural fatty tissue, while Butt Implants are made of silicone and placed in the buttocks. If you do not have enough fat to be transferred, then implants are likely the best option for you. If you do have enough fat to be transferred, then Brazilian Butt Lift is a great option. When possible, Dr Firouz prefers Brazilian Butt Lift over butt implants for several reasons:
- Less risk of infection because it uses your own fat; the fat won’t be rejected by your body, which could happen to an implant.
- Can sculpt other areas of your body with lipo, creating very balanced and natural looking results for your entire body.
- Can shape the fat transferred into the buttocks to look more natural than implants.
A: Yes! If you currently do not have enough fat, we can come up with a plan for how much weight you will need to gain in order to have enough fat for a Brazilian Butt Lift. Once you have gained the weight, we can schedule the liposuction and Brazilian Butt Lift procedure.
A: Overall the Brazilian Butt Lift is a safe procedure. Liposuction is a safe with relatively low complication rates. Additionally, fat transfer is safe because it is not a foreign object or substance, meaning that your body will not reject it. With that said, every surgery has risks associated with it, so be sure to discuss these in more detail with Dr. Firouz prior to surgery.
A: The answer to this question varies from one patient to the next. The amount of enhancement depends on several factors, including:
- How large the patient wants the buttocks to be after surgery.
- The amount of fat we are able to harvest via liposuction.
- The contrast in contouring of the surrounding areas from the liposuction.
Overall, Dr. Firouz’s goal is to give you the results you desire, as long as your expectations are realistic.
A: For most patients, the results of the butt lift are long lasting. The results will last longer if the fat is purified and re-injected properly. Since the fatty tissue being injected is your own, the body will actually provide this tissue with a blood supply. While a portion of the transferred fat will reabsorb prior to receiving this blood supply, approximately 50 to 70 percent of the fat cells injected will stay in place in your buttocks long-term.
