Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia is a very common problem.  Abnormal enlargement of male breasts can be troublesome.  Patients are self conscious and avoid public situations where their breasts are exposed or wearing tight fitting garments.  It can be caused by multiple factors.  A medical evaluation can be done to rule out any associated conditions. The most common cause is developmental.

Treatment:  Removal of the excess glandular breast and contouring the chest is done with liposuction and surgical excision.  The scars are placed around the areola or in the axilla (armpit).  Larger breasts may require a skin excision.  This will be discussed with you during the consultation.

Anesthesia:  The choice of anesthesia depends on the size of the area needing treatment. The surgery can be done under local anesthesia or local with sedation.

Recovery:  The chest is wrapped with a pressure garment for one to three weeks.  The swelling takes three weeks or longer to resolve.  The sutures are removed within a week.  The scars fade and are usually imperceptible with time.
